It's almost impossible to conceive a party without music. Music is the "heart" of any party.
When you have to choose party music you two possibilities:
a) hire a DJ, Singer or Band
b) "Do it yourself music"
In the first case you will need some money. Nobody will do it for free.
The second option is free, but you will need variety of mixed music to cater all age groups. It's better to go with 4 or 5 types of music. Try to consider the musical preferences of your guests. Start with mellow music while guests are arriving and getting comfortable, then heat it up.
Keep the depressing music away, you don't need sad guests at your party. The more variety you put into your music, the more opportunities to dance for your guests. Use a computer and create the playlists with DJ software in order to make your work more easy.
